What to see in Lampedusa, a minor island of Sicily

A magical itinerary among 5 of the most picturesque smaller islands of Sicily: Ustica, Pantelleria, Lampedusa, Linosa and Filicudi.

Not everyone knows that, in the heart of the Mediterranean, as satellites interconnected toSicily, archipelagos and smaller islands stand out which, together with the Trinacria, make up the entire territory of the Sicilian Region.

Aeolian, Egadi, Pelagie, Stagnone, Cyclops,Pantelleria and Usticathey represent the wonderful smaller islands of Sicily, as beautiful as they are wild, as unexplored as they are picturesque. And all, surely, to be discovered.

As a good Sicilian that I am, I know every single minor island of Trinacria in detail and, in my various wanderings in Sicily, I got to love them all. In this article, however, I want to leave you the 5 smaller islands that I visited and explored during the project#A HugOfSicily.

5 MINOR ISLANDS TO SEE IN SICILY

The itinerary of "Un Abbraccio Di Sicilia", created in a sultry summer month, took place between Ustica, Pantelleria, Lampedusa, Linosa and Filicudi with the support and collaboration of various partners: Birra dei Vespri, Daniè Made in Sicily, Visit Ustica, Liberty Lines, Ciprea Excursions, Lampedusa Tourist Hub, Lampedusa Today, DAT – Danish Air Transport, Sesi Park of Pantelleria, Pantelleria Park Authority, Hotel Phenicusa and La Terrazza del Phenicusa Restaurant in Filicudi.

USTICA

Usticais a minor island of Sicily that stands out in the heart of the Tyrrhenian Sea an hour and a half by hydrofoil from the port ofPalermo. It can be reached easily with the fast transport of theLiberty Lineswhich make daily trips from the Sicilian capital.

Small and picturesque, Ustica is the ideal island for those looking for crystal clear seas for diving and snorkelling, a holiday atmosphere where you can spend days in total relaxation and nature and archaeological trails.

PANTELLERIA

Pantelleria, also called the "Black pearl of the Mediterranean”, is the first minor island of Sicily by extension. Located southwest of Trapani, Pantelleria stands out halfway between Sicily andAfrica, from whose coasts it is just 65 kilometers away.

The fastest way to reach this picturesque land is by planeDATwhich carries out direct and daily connections with the airports of Palermo, Trapani and Catania.

Just set foot on the island to realize that Pantelleria is truly a magical place. The volcanic conformation means that the landscapes are always affected by the black color of the lava, hence the nickname "Black Pearl", by the green of the vineyards and the crystal clear blue of the sea.

Famous for its blinding blue waters and white sandy beaches, Lampedusa seems to belong to a fairytale place. L'Rabbit Island, the Tabaccara, the Guitgia beach, the giant turtles are just some of the wonders that are hidden on this "Isola Bella", all to be loved and discovered.

LINOSA

Even the little oneFlax, like Lampedusa and Lampione, is part of the Pelagie archipelago and stands out in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea exactly 160 kilometers from both Sicily and Africa.

Completely different from its "older sister Lampedusa", the island of Linosa is distinguished by a volcanic conformation, landscapes that very much recall the crateric ones of the Aeolian Islands and an atmosphere of silence without equal.

Disembarking in Linosa means disembarking in a land where time really seems to have stopped, where everything takes place to the rhythm of the sun and life passes by peacefully and without worries.

FILICUDI

Filicudiit is one of sevenAeolian Islands, the penultimate in terms of distance from the Tyrrhenian coast of the province ofMessina. It can be reached by hydrofoil, with the fast means of theLiberty Lineswhich take about 2 and a half hours of navigation and stop atVolcano, Lipari and Salina.

The landscapes of Filicudi are reflected in those of its "sister islands", with crystal clear seas, pebble beaches and volcanic conformations dotted with panoramic trekking paths.

The southern part of the island is the only one accessible by land and is also the only one that has a road linking the port and the fishing area.Pecorino a Mare, famous for its cafes. All the rest of Filicudi can only be reached by sea and this is why, among the most recommended things, the tour of the island by boat stands out.
